Chinmaya Mission of Orlando is offering Bharathanatyam  classes taught by Anandi Srinivas, director at the Navarasa Academy. 

Navarasa academy was started in the year of 2004.  Navarasa means 9 Rasas which stand for Shringaara (love), Haasya (laughter), Karuna (compassion), Roudra (anger), Veera (courage), Bhayaanaka (fear), Bheebhatsya (disgust), Adbutha (wonder), and Shaanta (tranquility).

 Classes are conducted every Sunday at Chinmaya Mission Orlando from 1PM onwards.

About Anandi Srinivas

Anandi began her career in dancing at the age of 10. She joined Darpana Academy of Performing Arts at that age and has been dancing for over 25 years. Anandi also trained in Drama, Kalaripaitu (Indian Martial Arts), Contemporary Art forms, Puppetry, Mask making, Voice training, Yoga, Mud mirror work, Costume designing and Folk dance of various states in India.

Anandi ji performed in countless dance dramas, classical & contemporary productions choreographed by Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai & Dr. Mallika Sarabhai. Anandi also performed in numerous folk dances through Janavak Repertoire.

Anandi also worked and choreographed with major directors such as John Martin – U.K., Jim – France, Jonathan Holander – USA, Massimilliano Troiani – Italy, K. Antonellausai – Italy, Behnoosh Taheri – Iran, Rosario Jaramillo – Colombia, Nicholas McBride – Australia, Suncica Milosavlsevic – Yugoslavia, Symon Macintyre – Scotland, Ellen Rose – Netherland, Samiya Malik, Rita Maffei – Italy, and Karine Saporta – France.

Navarasa academy was started in the year of 2004.  Navarasa means 9 Rasas which stand for Shringaara (love), Haasya (laughter), Karuna (compassion), Roudra (anger), Veera (courage), Bhayaanaka (fear), Bheebhatsya (disgust), Adbutha (wonder), and Shaanta (tranquility).

About Venupuri Srinivas

Sri. M.R. Venupuri Srinivas started as a child prodigy, playing Kanjira at a tender age of one year and eight months in Tirupathi. He gave his first concert in All India Radio when he was just three years old. Srinivas learned Mridangam under legends Ramanathapuram C.S. Murugaboopathi and Trivandrum Mahadeva Iyer.

He studied in Madras Music College under Thanjavur Srinivasan, obtaining his degree with distinction and a gold medal. Srinivas is an "A"grade artist in All India Radio. Srinivas plays Mridangam, Kanjira, Ghatam, Tabala, Dholak and Western Percusions as well as Konnakol.

Venupuri Srinivas has accompanied senior artists like M.S.Subbulakshmi, M.L. Vasanthakumari, Madurai Somasundaram, Veenai Balachander, T.K Govinda Rao, Maharajapuram Santhanam, T.N. Seshagopalan, Ravi Kiran,Mandolin Srinivas and Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Hydrabad Brothers, T.N. Krishnan, N. Ramani and many more legends. Srinivas is in fusion group with Louis Banks, Shankar Mahadevan, and Shiva Mani.

He has worked with Maestro Illayaraja and has travelled all over the world performing concerts. Srinivas is one of the most sought after Mridangam Artist for Bharathantaym and has composed music for dance dramas, fusion, and contemporary dance. He accompanied dancers like Mrinalini Sarabhai, Mallika Sarabhi, Menaka Thakkar, Swarnamukhi, Padma Subramanyam, Anandi Srinivas, and other numerous dancers.

Srinivas is presently living in Tampa, Florida and runs an institution called Navarasa Academy of Performing Arts. He has been teaching Mridangam, Tabla, Ghatam, and various percussion instruments for more than 10 years in Tampa.
